Il Postino

For four days last week we received no mail, an unprecedented event for us. When pressed for a reason, the postman explained that it was due to the improvements they were making to the Italian postal system.

We should have known.

This explains why our mail is, not to put too fine a point on it, sporadically delivered. Our mail carrier must be Italian. That would also explain why we are apt, on the days it IS delivered, to receive mail addressed to other people with different names, while one can only guess who gets ours.
